An intranet is a private network within an organization that often
has firewalls that inhibit outside access. These are valuable for
inter-organizational communication and can be set up to connect multiple
worksites. Intranets usually require a company-based server.
An extranet is more or less a private, password-protected site
with limited access. Extranets may be used in countless ways, including
project and case management, scheduling, and inventory control.
